Keratin Treatment

Keratin is a basic protein presented in our hair, skin and nails. Since the Columbus hair salon treatment is often called Keratin straightening treatment, consumers assume that keratin is related to straight hair, but this is not correct.

When the Keratin Treatment is performed, a Columbus hair salonapplies solution that instantly infuses the hair with keratin, repairing all damage and flaws within the hair. Keratin increases shine and reduces frizz, but does not directly straighten the hair itself as many people believe. After the application, the cocktail of various chemicals is added to your hair, and that creates the straightened effect by semi-permanently altering the hair’s structure.

In some keratin solutions the main component is Formaldehyde. This is a very dangerous chemical responsible for all the controversy regarding keratin treatments.  Some experts claim that exposure to formaldehyde increases risk of cancer. In some hair salons, customers and Hilliard hairstylists are required to wear filtered-air masks during the process.

Deep Conditioning Treatment

Each strand of hair has three distinct layers, the medulla, the cortex and the cuticle. The cuticle is the thin outer layer of hair that serves as the protective barrier to the middle layer of hair, the cortex. The cuticle is composed of tiny, transparent cells that overlap, like on the shingles of a house. When this layer of hair is damaged, the scales don’t lie flat and give the appearance of frizzy, dry hair. A deep conditioning treatment will condition the cuticle and help the scale-like cells to lie flat, giving the hair a smoother and shinier appearance. Read more about Deep Conditioning Treatments.
